About

Hon. Afolabi Moruf Afuape, popularly called AFOO, was born on 21st May, 1967 into the prestigious family of Chief Mojeed Akanni Afuape and Alhaja Sarat Ajoke Afuape (both of blessed memory) of Oluwo Afuape compound Isale Itoko, Abeokuta. He attended Nawarudeen Primary School, Oke Ajela, Isale Itoko in Abeokuta between (1973 - 1979) for his First School Leaving Certificate; proceeded to St. Peter's College and Muslim High School Abeokuta for his secondary school education between 1979 and 1984; and attended Ogun State Polytechnic (Now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) between 1986 and 1988 for his A-Levels qualification. On completing the advanced level program, he worked briefly with the National Population Commission from 1988 to 1990 before attending the University of Lagos (Unilag) to obtain a B.Sc (Hons) Degree in Banking and Finance in 1994. His quest for knowledge led him to acquire two master’s degrees from Unilag in Business Administration (MBA) from 1995 to 1997 and Economics (1997 - 1998). He started his career as a part-time lecturer at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and with hard work, became a full-time lecturer in the Department of Marketing in 1997, from where he rose to the Head of Department in 2002. His stellar performance earned him several awards as best lecturer in the School of Business Studies, among many others. He is a published author of books that include, Practical Approach to Business Finance and Financial Management 1 & 2; and coauthor, Public Finance (Nigeria Economy In Perspective) and Principle of Micro and Macro Economics (with special reference to Nigeria). Hon. Afuape Afolabi served at all levels of government in various capacities including as a member of the Ogun State Transition Work Groups on Cooperatives and member of Commerce and Industry Subcommittee in 2003. He served as the Electoral Officer to Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) in 2004 and Governor Liaison Officer for Local Government election in 2007. He served as Secretary of Abeokuta South Local Government from 2004 to 2007 and as Special Adviser to the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives from 2008 to June 2011. He returned to the classroom as lecturer at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Banking and Finance Department) after his meritorious service at the federal level before he was again found worthy and called to serve as Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports on 29th October, 2015, a position he held until November 2018 before leaving to pursue other political goals. He worked as 2019 State Party agent to support the emergence of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, under whom he served as Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. He contested for and won the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency seat and presently represents the interest of the Abeokuta South constituents at the National Assembly of Nigeria (NASS). Hon. Afuape is a serial entrepreneur and is happily married with children.
